Hi, how are we all this week?
Well the big game this weekend was obviously the NPC final with Canterbury
vs Wellington. It was a very good game and with the whole lounge out in
support of Wellington (the underdogs) it was good to see them come away
with a win. It was incredibly nervous in the last 5 minutes as the ref
refused to blow the whistle for the Wellington win with Canterbury camped
on the Wellington goal line.

So we lost the cricket to South Africa (by 6 wickets), the Warriors have a
new coach (Daniel Anderson from Aust.), the big fight for David Tua is
coming up. The hype has started & is likely to reach fever pitch (at least
for all NZ MALES) before the actual fight in November.
Sonya & Rob Waddell both won races at a major USA rowing regatta - good on
them! Gordon Slater was recalled to the All Blacks, a bonus for Taranaki
doing so well in the NPC.
ParaOlympics (Parallel Olympics that is...) New Zealand is doing really
well, but you wouldn't know it! I just spent 10 minutes (an Internet
eternity) before finally finding the latest medal tally. New Zealand is
26th, which is great simply because it's on the first page! with 3 Golds,
and 5 Silvers - go you good thing! Unfortunately Australia leads (29, 20,
23) with Spain, Great Britain and USA following.

In other news, New Zealand abstained from the UN vote of condemning Israel
for their actions (but not the Palestinians???). NZ were 1 of only 6 UN
countries that abstained. I'd have to say this is one of the first
excellent things I've seen this government do.
A Kangaroo has been seen in London - watch out Andrew!! mind you these
days it might be safer to take the Kangaroo to work than the train!
A couple dumped a 6 week old baby in a rubbish bin after an argument.
There were a bunch of people that saw it and took it to the Police
Station, but come on...

We had beautiful fine weather for Labour Weekend this year. All three days
were clear and fine and I made the most of recovering from Mum & Dad's
holiday! Elaine (from Brazil) has been here and she is about to head to
USA so we had a farewell with everyone who was anyone here (except for all
your distinguished selves... :-)

Ahh well I better do some work... have a good week.

Darren.
